Pre-formed MDF differs form our preformed plywood columns only in that the outer layer of the column is finished in a thin layer of MDF. This however gives the column a very smooth paint grade substrate which is ready to receive any internal quality paint. This is also a fantastic material for making architectural column casings and features.
Please click on the images below to see examples of MDF paint grade column casings finished with painted decoration, which will give a flavour of what can be achieved. Alternatively please view our project gallery which showcases all column types.
Column casings are manufactured in exactly the same way as that already described in the section titled pre-formed plywood columns. Obviously as discussed it is only the thin outer layer of the casing which is given a thin layer of MDF which makes the column ideal to receive painted decoration in place of a high pressure laminate.
Key Advantages; * Design flexibility - numerous configurations and shapes available; * Vast range of RAL paints to choose from; * High strength material, can be redecorated if damaged; * Ideal for internal use; * Reduction in weight over other construction materials; * Speed of manufacture and site Installation. * Cheaper than applying high pressure laminate finishes; * Easy to trim on site. * Secret fix jointing system available or joints can be filled & painted over;
Key Disadvantage * Not suitable for external use. * wet trade - on site decoration required;
